Psalm 32:11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
How is it that we who have been so wonderfully saved and washed from the guilt and consequences of our sin have to be told to be “glad”? The whole thing really comes as a rebuke. How ungrateful can we be?
Possibly it is the balancing act we have to perform. Being in the world and not of the world is not an easy exercise. Constantly sorting and arranging values and priorities can become a confusing duty. It comes down to such simple and mundane things as: a Chevy or a Buick, a two thousand square foot house or a thousand square foot house, prayer meeting or a basketball game!
Now, I may be making this altogether to difficult. But I do think that these are choices we must make. Solomon helps us in some measure with this.
Ecclesiastes 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
Maybe it is so simple as to just keep our real satisfaction in Christ and to find our fullness in Him. To always let these other matters of life just be sources of serving Him better. Maybe the answer is as simple as these words from Paul:
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
