Philippians 1:12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;
In this text Paul speaks of his circumstances. Is it not true that our circumstances are often the subject of our discontent? Not so with the beloved apostle, he preferred to see God’s hand in his circumstances. He rejoiced to see his imprisonment as an opportunity to reach folks with the gospel that he may not otherwise reach.
My view of this is to recognize that God is the ultimate central planner. What a blessed and delightful way to look at the events of our lives. It may be a trip to the bank or to the doctor. It may be an unwelcome chore in the backyard or running into an old acquaintance in the grocery store. All of these things are events where God may be served. Consider this text:
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
God has certainly delivered us from the vanity of life. We have the wonderful and blessed privilege of serving our Lord in every station of life. This is where joy is to be found.
