Biblical Prophecy

Published on 04/27/15

We had a very pleasant Lord’s Day together yesterday. We enjoyed the richness of sweet, heart-stirring music and the clear and plain preaching of the Word. Evangelist Ken Lynch was our guest and we fully enjoyed and benefited from his ministry. For those of you who may have missed this opportunity, he will be at First Baptist in Columbia Falls next Sunday through Wednesday.

Beginning next Sunday I will be beginning a new series on Biblical prophecy. The first couple of weeks we will be laying a foundation that will deal with the “why” of Biblical prophecy. It is not only important and interesting to see what God has planned and prepared for the future but to also see why it is He is doing what He is doing. Our world today has a very false view of God if they believe in Him at all. The truth is that God is angry with the world. Peter warned his readers to not misunderstand the patience and tolerance of God. Note this quote from Peter:

2 Peter 3:1-9 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Today our world is pressing forward on borrowed time. God’s judgment will be poured out on this planet much the same as His judgment was poured out on Egypt in the days of Moses. And the “why” was the abuse of His people. Prophecy is the story of God’s love, protection and vindication of His own.
