Attention

Back in the mid-west most of the towns have tornado sirens. And we are coming up upon the time of year when tornadoes are more prevalent. These sirens are installed and used for the safety of the residents of these communities. When they sound you cannot miss them. Speaking of “miss”, I do miss them. They don’t really strike fear in the hearts of life-long mid-westerners, they just warn them to take necessary precautions. It really is just a call to attention. It sets your eyes on the skies and usually you just go about your normal activities, with an awareness that something dangerous may happen rapidly and you must be ready to take shelter. We have a very comparable matter in some of the teachings of Christ:

Luke 21:34-36
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

In this portion of Scripture Christ calls the entire world to attention regarding His return and the judgments of the world and the individuals within it. It sounds as a siren over our world warning us to take shelter. That shelter is in the work that Jesus Christ did on the cross. Have you come to attention and taken shelter in the cross? The siren is sounding.
