A Resting Place

Published on 11/11/13

There is an old hymn that contains this phrase: “My faith has found a resting place…” Folks these days rest their faith on a lot of different things. One of the most false places you can find is that of your experience. I am troubled at how often as I quiz folks about their salvation they will cite an experience such as an auto accident that they have survived or some other crises as the assurance that all is well with them in eternity. It reminds me of the man who escaped an encounter with a bear, only to be killed by a lion.

There is only one way of salvation and it must be purposefully chosen and followed.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Yesterday Pastor Weber took us through some of the great evidences of the reality of Jesus as the Son of God and the provision of God for the eternal salvation of man. There is no other means of salvation and it is not just indiscriminately applied to man. This is a way of salvation that must be chosen in faith.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Romans 10:9-11 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

So what is it that your faith is resting upon? God is in the business of saving only those who confess their sin and trust in Christ.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
