You have likely seen the movie, “While you were Sleeping”. It is a romantic comedy of a man who was injured and rendered unconscious for some time and when he awoke his entire life had become quite confused. I often look around myself and wonder when all the rules and standards were changed. I wonder how it has happened that so many values and priorities have become abandoned. And it is not just in our world and culture it is in our churches also.
The fairy tale that I am thinking about is titled, “The Emperor has no Clothes”. It is the story of a pompous leader that is shanghaied by a devious tailor that assures him he can spin him a suit of clothes that only the “wise” and “sophisticated” can see. No one is willing to admit they cannot see his new suit of clothes until a simple and honest child declares, “the emperor has no clothes”.
These days seem to me to be days when both Christians and their churches have so deviated from the Scriptures that they no longer bear the clear mark of Christ upon them and no one seems willing to observe it. The Old Testament prophets say that one mark of God’s judgment is that He makes fools their leaders. I wonder if we have come upon those days!
