A Good Reminder!

Last evening we had the privilege of sitting under the ministry of evangelist Timothy Silcott. He entertained and encouraged us with his gift of ventriloquism and then later opened to us a great reminder of our participation in the work of evangelism.

I tend to parse things very closely and while there is a place for that, it is so good to get a simple and strong reminder of our general duty of representing God and the gospel. Timothy opened to us the experience of the apostle Paul in his initial visit to the city of Philippi. It can be clearly seen in this text how Lydia and the jailer were so quick and sacrificial in helping Paul in his evangelistic work. To me it was a great reminder of how God’s people can work together and enjoy one another as we serve our Master.

Lydia’s home and the jailer’s table were made serviceable to Paul and his companions as both an aid and a comfort in the work to which God had called him. It is a great example of how all of us can become serviceable in God’s business.
